ANDRE L. SAUNDERS, D.Min.
Andre L. Saunders is a 1983 graduate of Oakwood College, Huntsville, Alabama, with a Bachelors of Arts degree, with a major in Theology and a minor in History. Andre received his Master of Divinity, from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan in 1987. In 2001, he became a Walker/Richardson Fellow when he received his Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio, under the mentoring tutelage of Drs Wyatt Tee Walker (protégé of the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr) former senior minister and CEO of Canaan Baptist Church of Christ, Harlem, New York, and W. Franklyn Richardson, senior pastor and CEO of Grace Baptist Church, Mount Vernon, New York., and team player coach, the Reverend Dr. David Forbes, Sr.
Elder Saunders served the Allegheny East Conference as a Bible Worker and Computer Operator in at least three Real Truth Evangelistic Crusades at Baltimore, Maryland in 1983 and in Washington, D.C., 1987 & 1988. Hundreds of converts were baptized in each meeting. Before graduating from Oakwood College, Elder Saunders served as a literature salesperson and assistant leader. As a junior theology major he also took leave to become a Conversational English Teacher and Bible Instructor in Pusan, Korea from 1981-1982. At the Hadley Memorial SDA Church, Washington, D.C., he assisted Chaplain and Pastor Ebenezer Pedapudi as assistant pastor/first elder, 1986-1988. Elder Saunders also has worked as a Payroll Administrative Clerk at the Library of Congress, Security Officer, and as a Administrative Assistant at Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C., 1987-89.
Dr. Saunders received an invitation from the Allegheny West Conference to serve the Ramah Junior Academy in Cleveland, Ohio as an Instructor teaching Religion, History, and Art to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, 1989-90. One of his former seventh graders, the former Andrea Trusty, has become an outstanding and dynamic pastor/speaker in the Southeastern California Conference. Another former seventh grade student, the former Shaneé Arthurs has received her Doctor of Dentistry/license and is practicing in Tennessee. Gary King one of his former six grade students, received his Master of Arts in Education and is now teaching at Ramah Junior Academy. At least two of his eighth grade students, Raul Cummings and Orinton Grant have also received their master degrees in the 1990s and are working in their respective fields. Dr. Saunders also has given back to the Cleveland community working as a Field Supervisor under the Big Buddy/Little Buddy Program sponsored under the umbrella of Youth Visions, Inc., 1991-92. At the same time, he gave his time to the Cleveland Clinic as a Chaplain Intern completing 5 months and 150 hours of the Basic Extended Unit for hospital chaplaincy education. From 1991 to the present, Dr. Saunders has worked in the Allegheny West Conference as a Senior District Administrative Pastor. Dr. Saunders received his Certificate of Ordination at the Allegheny West Campgrounds, Thornsville, Ohio, in 1997.
Dr. Saunders is a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force as a Reserve Chaplain. His date of rank was 1999 as a First Lieutenant. He now holds the rank of Captain as a former unit chaplain of the 445th Air Lift Wing, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Fairborn, Ohio, from 2000 to 2003. During that time he attended Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Birmingham, Alabama and received the USAF Officer Training Course Diploma in 2001, and the USAF Basic Chaplain Course Diploma in 2002. He enrolled in Squadron Officer College and wrote inspiring articles for the Buckeye Flyer.
Dr. Saunders has also served as a member of community ministerial associations in Ohio, West Virginia and Virginia. He is an avid writer and author. His upcoming books Underestimated In Time: Overcomers In Eternity, Another Look At A Number Which No One Can Count to be available in January 2007 and A Woman In Red & The Men in Black to be available soon by July 2007 are on the cutting edge of religious interest. He has been a guest speaker for workshops, seminars, youth federations, community Service federations, conventions throughout the Allegheny East/West Conference. His passion in history is Biblical Afro-centric History & of the Old and New Testaments and Social Justice.
Andre is married to Paula, who holds a BS in Elementary Education with over 20 years experience in the private and public classroom and is currently teaching Second Grade at Forest Hills Elementary, in Danville, Virginia, since 2004. They are the parents of three pre-teen/teenage children Andrea 13, Ashley 11, and A.J., 10. Dr. Saunders joined the Ross Street/Emmanuel SDA Church district at the behest of the Allegheny West Executive Committee in October 2003.
